AT&T Data Breach Notification 2024.03.30

As small business owners, safeguarding our data and protecting our customers' privacy are paramount. Today, I'm reaching out with urgent information regarding a cybersecurity breach that may impact both current and former AT&T account holders – including businesses like yours.

On March 30th, AT&T disclosed a significant breach, revealing that data belonging to 7.6 million current account holders and 65.4 million former account holders has been discovered on the dark web. This includes sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, dating back to 2019 or earlier.

While AT&T has initiated communication with current account holders, former customers – and potentially small businesses like ours – may not have received notification. Regardless of your current account status, immediate action is necessary to protect your business and customer data.

Here's what you can do to safeguard your business:

  1. Update Your Passwords: Regularly changing passwords is vital, especially now. Though it may seem inconvenient, this step is crucial to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts and protect sensitive business information.

  2. Check for Compromised Emails: Visit "Have I Been Pwned" to determine if your business email address has been involved in any known data breaches. This tool provides insights into compromised accounts, enabling you to take proactive measures.

  3. Stay Informed: Refer to AT&T's official statement on the breach for updates and insights into their response efforts. Knowledge is power, and staying informed is essential for safeguarding your business against potential threats.
